www.CharlestonPhysicians.com | www.HealthLinksCharleston.com PC 3 | 35 ABOUT THE COVER... Everyone needs a general practitioner. During flu season; when you are wondering what that new little mark is that popped up on your arm; when you are noticing a weird pain in your knee – these are all things that a general practitioner can answer questions about and advise you on. Their training and experience will be with you throughout your life. A specialist is only needed until a specific problem is resolved, but a general practitioner, primary care doctor or family physician – however you want to refer to them – will be there with you for the long haul. That is why we decided to dedicate this special section to the beloved field of primary care. On the cover we highlighted Dr. Antonio Hernandez, Nurse Practitioner Tracy Caldwell and Dr. Lucy Davis. Dr. Hernandez, of Liberty Doctors’ particular interests lie in geriatrics, chronic disease management and exercise/weight management. He believes in empowering patients to assist in managing their own health and is driven by the bonds he hasdeveloped over the years with his patients. Caldwell is a nurse practitioner with MUSC in its Sweetgrass Primary Care office in Mount Pleasant. Her interests include not only caring for the sick but also helping patients manage their chronic diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. She also has a pas- sion for women’s health and preventive care. Dr. Davis practices on Daniel Island with Palmetto Primary Care Physicians. She assists both children and adults in a family setting. She has been serving the Daniel Island com- munity for 15 years by offering comprehensive visits, acute care and preventive screenings.
