I always felt my journey in health care was preparing me for something more. I saw a great need in people who were lonely, afraid, depressed and anxious. They had no one to turn to because our traditional medical community lacks answers they so desperately needed. I found myself “coaching” more often, restoring hope, which is so essential and crucial to our health. What’s your favorite way to recharge or prevent burnout? Keeping an open mind. Being in health care for a long time has impacted my routines and habits. It’s allowed me to see what works and what doesn’t. One of the biggest takeaways has been what may work for you may not be the answer for me. It’s not a one-size-fits-all mentality. When you look at alternatives, you develop an amazing new perspective on your routines and habits – simple things such as instead of saying “I’ll always have to be on this medication,” you can look at ways of working with a seasoned health coach to lead you to not being on that medication for the rest of your life. Did you ever think you’d be where you are today professionally? When I was a little girl, I remember telling my parents I wanted to be a missionary, traveling to third-world countries – probably because my parents were missionaries for a season. My mom worked as a nurse in a nursing home and would occasionally bring a patient home for a holiday because they had no family. Seeing all this, and being impressionable, I knew I wanted to help people. What great mentorship have you received? I’ve seen nearly every physical, mental and emotional struggle a human being can face. My journey has crossed paths with oncology, orthopedic, general surgery, pediatric ENT, internal medicine, dermatology, integrative medicine and wellness programs. It created the opportunity to hone a skill set that comes with diversity and understanding.
