MEN WI N HEALTH HealthLinksSC.com | 57 Briefly describe one routine or good habit that has helped you navigate a specific challenge in your career. Unplug and unwind at the end of the day. It is impossible to stay driven and compassionate without taking care of yourself. Your mental health should be as high a priority as your clients’ or patients’ health. What’s your favorite way to recharge, engage in self-care or prevent burnout? At first, I had no idea that I needed a hobby or to take a break from my job. It consumed every minute of my life, honestly. I became so worn down. Once I realized the toll it was taking, I found a hobby that we were good at – making candles – and started a little side business. It was a huge brain break from all of the day-to-day things we deal with in the health care industry. If you could give one piece of advice to your clients regarding their health, what would it be? Please plan for future needs. In their younger years, some of our clients didn’t think they would ever need a long-term care policy, a life insurance policy or larger retirement funds, so, when they arrived at the point where they need 24/7 home care and didn’t have those policies, it was devastating. As a home care administrator, I urge everyone to plan ahead. You never know what is going to happen.
