After undergraduate studies at the University of California Santa Barbara, where she apprenticed as a medical assistant, she went on to attend Albany Medical School and explored many different paths in medicine. Dr. Cox realized her desire to form longer patient relationships while still performing surgery – something that felt unique to obstetrics and gynecology. During her first year of medical school, she joined the Army so she could serve her country as an active-duty physician. When she enlisted, little did she know that fate would push her onto the path of reproductive medicine. Admiring the sacrifices women make, she has remained passionate about assisting military women and families in their fertility journeys. Her efforts along these lines were highlighted by her decision to petition for a new clinic to serve the needs of the military following her reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship and Army OBGYN residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. After retiring from the Army, Dr. Cox found an opportunity to take over an already established practice. Well-laid plans were unraveled by the COVID-19 pandemic, and, new to Charleston, she was left without a job. Employing her general OBGYN skills, she became a laborist and delivered babies in area hospitals. “I got to know some incredible OBGYNs in the community and learned the landscape of fertility care in South Carolina,” Dr. Cox said. As a woman and a veteran – and a person strongly determined to lower fertility costs – she decided to open Adore Fertility. Its motto is “where love grows life.” Dr. Cox urges more practitioners to start their own business, to “take health care back into our own hands.” But, of course, she said, “You’ve got to believe that you can do it.” By Molly Sherman Dr. Jeris Cox ADORE FERTILITY Mount Pleasant 843-990-4500 adorefertility.com @adorefertility HEALTH SPECIALISTS & ENDOSCOPY CENTER Mt Pleasant | West Ashley | Summerville | Moncks Corner 843-571-0643 | PalmettoDigestive.com Patients Love Palmetto ! • 99% Satisfaction Rating • 4.8 Google Star Rating from Over 450 Combined Patient Reviews NOW OPEN IN CAROLINA PARK State-of-the-Art Digestive Clinic & Endoscopy Center Photo by Jenn Cady.
