Then, unexpectedly, she suffered a third-degree sprain while playing basketball. Appreciative of the physical therapy treatments she received, she went on to pursue both a bachelor’s degree at the University of South Carolina and a masters in exercise science at The Citadel. However, while she was committed to doing something positive to help relieve pain for people, a chance visit to a local Stretch Zone facility proved to be life-changing. McCoy was instantly attracted to the free consultation; the patient-driven, effective workouts; and the long-term positive results. She had found her niche. A Mount Pleasant resident since childhood, McCoy moved to Summerville five years ago. She loves being surrounded by family and has been committed to staying close to loved ones as she pursues career opportunities. In 2021, after five years working as the general manager for Stretch Zone, McCoy bought the two nearest existing franchises: one on Coleman Boulevard and the other in North Mount Pleasant. She hopes to open a third facility closer to Summerville in 2023. Today, McCoy chooses to be as hands-on as possible at both facilities. She does the important initial consultations and helps design three- and six-month programs for a wide variety of clients. “We see golfers, tennis players and other athletes, but we also treat accident victims and patients with diseases such as Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. I love seeing new cases with new issues that we can address. We let the patient be in total control of the stretch sessions as their brain learns to relax affected muscles. My goal is to help as many people as I can in my part of the world,” enthused McCoy, and, with all that positive energy, she seems to be well on her way to achieving her goal. By Janet E.
