We are proud to be part of the greater scientific community in the pursuit of safe, effective interventions that result in disease prevention, identification, treatment and/or a cure.” HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS OR BEEN WITH THE COMPANY? “Coastal Pediatric Research has been in business for 10 years. I have been leading our research team for the last sixand-a-half years.” WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON SERVICES YOU OFFER? “We offer pediatric clinical trials ranging from newborns to teenagers of the Lowcountry. We focus on primary care related trials, including new vaccines or vaccine technology – i.e. COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus, flu, – infant formula, ADHD, dermatology conditions like eczema, and neurology conditions like Tourette syndrome.” TELL US ABOUT ONE OF YOUR PATIENTS' SUCCESS STORIES? “We have had several success stories – two of which that resonate with our staff include the clearance of lesions with the use of an investigational product for molluscum contagiosum. This participant was self-conscious about his lesions – ‘bumps’ – at sleepovers and was being bullied at school for them. It was a remarkable experience to see the joy in the parent and participant when his lesions were resolving and cleared after several weeks of being in the trial. In addition, we’ve had several families who have a history of participation in clinical trials. One participant enrolled in a COVID-19 vaccine trial and had members of her family participate in every other adult COVID-19 vaccine trial at the beginning of the pandemic. In addition, we learned one of our participants in a COVID-19 vaccine trial had a relative, his grandmother, participate in the first polio vaccine trial. It was awesome to hear about he and his grandmother being so proud to be pioneers in the wave of new, innovative vaccine research.” WHAT ARE YOU ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2022? “Successful utilization of our newly renovated research space in both thriving locations: West Ashley and Summerville.” TELL US SOMETHING NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT YOUR PRACTICE. “We collaborate with other specialties, including local OBGYN groups and hospitals around town that participate in mother-baby clinical trials with us, as well as a pediatric neurologist for subspecialty studies in pediatric neurology.” COASTAL PEDIATRIC RESEARCH Best Research Center Laura Grant, MHA, CCRP, executive director of clinical research, Coastal Pediatric Research
