According to my mother, I started talking about being a doctor when I was 4 years old. In elementary school, I broke my arm. I was amazed by the care I received. After this, I knew I wanted to go into medicine and help people the same way those doctors helped me. It was during my residency at MUSC that I found my passion for helping others look and feel their best. I think sometimes people underestimate the power of self-confidence, but feeling good about yourself can really change the course of one's life and experiences.” WHAT ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT OUTSIDE OF WORK? “Outside of work, my biggest focus is spending quality time with my two daughters. I also enjoy playing golf, exercising and exploring new restaurants and cuisine.” WHY DO YOU LIKE LIVING IN THE LOWCOUNTRY? “I have lived in Charleston for over 20 years and have found it a great place to call home. I love the weather, the food, the nature and the people. There is always something fun to do. From our thriving arts and music scene to the historic sites downtown, I feel very fortunate to have raised my daughters in a place with such rich culture.” WHERE ARE YOU FROM? TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND. “I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and lived in American Samoa for most of my childhood — a tropical paradise where I spent my days snorkeling and playing golf. At the age of 14, I moved to Tuscumbia, Alabama, to attend high school. It was a significant change and one of the great defining moments of my life and allowed me to pursue higher education in the United States.” DR.
