HealthLinksSC.com | 51 As the holidays approach, South Bay at Mount Pleasant and Shem Creek Health Center at South Bay come alive with festive decorations, twinkling lights and the unmistakable sound of laughter. For residents, it’s a time to cherish the company of friends old and new, reminisce about cherished traditions and create new memories. Whether it’s sharing stories by the fireplace, enjoying delicious holiday feasts or partaking in a variety of activities, holidays offer a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, celebrating the spirit of the season while nurturing a strong sense of community and belonging. Senior living communities are designed to cater to the needs and preferences of seniors while fostering a strong sense of community. During the holiday season, residents and staff work together to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, helping everyone feel like part of an extended family. “We enjoy all the holiday activities offered; there is so much to do. Our children don’t live locally, and they’re busy with their kids and schedules during the holidays, so we rarely see them this time of year. Being residents of South Bay, we don’t feel like we’re missing out on any festivities because we spend this time with all our friends,” commented one South Bay resident. When others are asked, they will tell you it’s “eating and cookies. Making decorations. Time with family and, of course, football,” that make residents happy to be part of the South Bay and Shem Creek family. This year will be a memorable one for Joe Carr, the new campus director of South Bay at Mount Pleasant and Shem Creek Health Center. “Holidays are always my favorite time of year. The weather gets a little cooler, and the joy of holiday festivities is in the air. This year is extra special for me because it’s my first year here at South Bay, and I can’t wait to see and participate in the fun activities and excitement planned for our residents, their families and our team members.” Loneliness is a big challenge that seniors face during the holidays. South Bay and Shem Creek address this issue headon by providing numerous opportunities for socialization and engagement. “Immediately after the holiday decorations are complete, there are an unbelievable number of Christmas shows and concerts available to us here on our campus and around town. Cookies, candy and sweets abound as we share the holiday spirit with other residents who have become our second family,” said another South Bay resident. Prepping for holiday gatherings can be stressful for seniors. South Bay and Shem Creek remove this burden by organizing and hosting holiday events and dinners. “Our executive chef and her crew go out of their way to prepare and serve the finest holiday foods – each new creation is more beautiful than the one before,” noted another South Bay resident. Residents enjoy delicious meals without the hassle of cooking or cleaning, allowing them to focus on what truly matters – spending quality time with loved ones and friends. Perhaps the most significant advantage of spending the holidays at South Bay and Shem Creek is the opportunity to create cherished memories. The festive atmosphere, the camaraderie of fellow residents and the joy of shared experiences all contribute to making the holiday season truly special.
