The pandemic has made it clear to all of us that we must act immediately and make our health a priority. We can’t let life get in the way of using the enormous power we have to change our health. We know more now than ever that we must stay healthy enough to be sick. I first heard this con - cept from my dear and inspirational friend, Lorcan Lucey. I must give credit to a man who truly knows how to make healthy lifestyle habits a priority and not something we do when convenient. The good news is that even small daily changes in how we choose to live our life can have an incredible impact on the health of our bodies and our brains. Good lifestyle habits result in health- ier brains and healthier bodies. It’s exciting to have the power to improve lifestyle habits and feel such positive change in how we think and how we feel. It’s all about how we choose to live our life! It is our choice, but managing the process of changing habits can be challenging. Many things in life take courage, and I must say that changing habits that don’t serve us well takes courage and commitment. Through this process comes self-growth, improved mental and physical health, contentment, joy and added energy to enjoy loved ones and the world around us. As Steve Prefontaine once said, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.” We all have greatness within us and have been given immeasurable gifts. Living the healthiest life possible enables us to give our best each day and share these gifts with others. As some of you may already know, I am retiring in November. It has certainly been an honor and pleasure to be part of the Well- ness Center Team for 32 years. It has been rewarding to be a part of MUSC and assist the Wellness Center in offering wellness oppor- tunities to MUSC students, staff and the community. The Wellness Center is blessed to have an educated and dedicated team of well- ness professionals who are ready to guide you through every step of your lifestyle journey. Jim Tomsic will be your interim director for November. Jim has been with the Wellness Center for 29 years and has played an essential role in its positive and transformative experience. I am also excited to introduce you to Dusty Jackson, the next director of the Wellness Center. He will be with all of you starting Dec. 1 and is excited to bring his experience and passion for creating a culture of health and wellness for students, employees and the com- munity. He will be featured in a Wellness Center newsletter very soon. Please welcome Dusty and support him as he joins the Wellness Center team. Have the courage to make the necessary lifestyle changes for your best health and live each day to its fullest! I wish you all the very best in health!
