Exercise. For me, exercise provides more of a mental release or break than a physical one. It helps keep me focused to navigate challenges that present themselves. If you could give only one piece of advice to your patients in regard to their health, what would it be? Be more proactive with your health. People who see their health care provider on a regular basis and have routine screenings are more likely to receive an early diagnosis if they develop a medical condition, which contributes to better outcomes and a longer life. Describe a moment when you knew you were in the right career in the right place. I had a customer come in and thank me for catching a prescription written incorrectly by her doctor. The mistake could have been fatal. What’s your favorite way to recharge, engage in self-care or prevent burnout? I recharge by spending quality time with family and friends and, as I mentioned, exercising. Share advice you would give as a mentor to women new to the health field. When mentoring other women in my profession, I try to point out what makes them unique and how they can use their abilities to obtain opportunities that lay above and in front of them. Briefly discuss one common misconception about your profession that you would like to refute. I’d like to let people know that pharmacists don’t just “count pills.” Truth be told, I rarely am the one counting the pills. I spend more time dealing with insurance and working toward improving patient outcomes. Photo by Jenn Cady. Local care by a pharmacy team that knows you.
